Ultima GTR 2007 Super Car and Fastest Car
The Ultima Factory has recorded yet another blistering statistic in the multiple world record holding Ultima GTR supercar. The Ultima GTR road car used for the run was the same factory’s standard production specification road car Ultima GTR720 demonstrator which has recently smashed the 0-100mph-0-world record.
It was fitted with a 720bhp Chevrolet V8 engine from the OE engine suppliers American Speed, a standard 5-speed G50 transmission and road tyres. The GTR720 was pitched against a standard 345bhp Corvette C5, which doubled as a camera car to help demonstrate the mind-boggling performance of the GTR720, compared to other recognized fast road cars.
Richard Marlow commented, “ We knew that the standard factory spec car was more than capable of achieving a standing quarter mile time of this caliber, and it shows once again its performance superiority over other supercars. We performed several runs on the day all of which were in the sub 10secs category, The Ultima has a great deal more attributes to it than that of performing standing ¼ mile drag runs, but nevertheless this is a historical and worldwide reputed statistic that we wanted to record in order to demonstrate what our standard product can run. Clearly there is plenty more potential for the GTR on the drag strip if the runs had been carried out during a competitive event and if the car was optimized for such use, but that is not something we will be pursuing further. We are delighted that the standard road tyred GTR can run 9 secs quarters consistently with ease, and that these times are significantly quicker than all other supercars.
Performance
Recently Ultima have focused their marketing efforts on record-breaking activities using a model equipped with a 640 bhp (477 kW) American Speed engine, which is called the Ultima GTR640, and subsequently, a 720 bhp (537 kW) engine which is called the GTR720. As a result, they have established the following official, independently verified records[3] for a production car equipped with road tires and exhaust:
- Fastest 0-60 mph (97 km/h) time: 2.6 seconds[3]
- Fastest 0-100 mph (160 km/h) time: 5.3 seconds[3]
- Fastest 30 mph (48 km/h)-70 mph (110 km/h) time: 1.8 seconds[3]
- Fastest 100 mph (160 km/h)- 0 mph time: 3.6 seconds[3]
- Fastest 0-100 mph (160 km/h)- 0 mph time: 9.4 seconds[3]
- Best performance on a skidpad: 1.176g lateral grip in a 200 ft (60 m) circle.
- Fastest road car over the 1/4 mile: 9.9 seconds @ 143 mph (230 km/h)
Due to its curb weight of 990 kg (2,183 lb)[4], the power-to-weight ratio for the GTR720 is 727 hp (542 kW) per tonne, which is a better ratio than the Bugatti Veyron, Enzo Ferrari, Ascari A10, Koenigsegg CCX or CCGT (but less than the Koenigsegg CCXR), it’s also lesser to the Caparo T1. However, the Ultima chassis is rated for engines up to 1,000 bhp (700 kW) and some of Ultima’s customers have fitted engines producing 1,000 bhp (700 kW) or more[5], for a power-to-weight ratio of over 1,000 hp (746 kW) per tonne, which is approximately twice the power to weight ratio of the aforementioned cars and nearly the same as the Caparo T1′s (1170 hp/tonne, but this is a “dry” tonnage and the hp/tonne would be reduced once oil, coolant, gasoline, etc. are added, compared to the Ultima figures above which are “wet” weights).
The GTR720 has been independently timed lapping the Top Gear test track in 1 minute 12.8 seconds, beating all the cars listed on the Top Gear television programme’s Power Board by over 4 seconds.[6][7] In October 2009 Ultima set another time of 1 minute 9.9 seconds, but this time in a configuration not suitable for use on public highways. Ultima have been keen to point out that this time is faster than those set by both the Ferrari FXX and the Caparo T1; of which neither were deemed to be acceptable road cars by the Top Gear presenters shortly after these times were set.
