Subaru Outback 3.6R 2010
Subaru’s all-new fourth generation 2010 Outback, featuring a wider exterior design, more interior space and a longer wheelbase. However, not to be misled, Subaru engineers delivered the new Outback in a 1-inch shorter package than last year.
Riding on a new platform, the 2010 Outback is 2.8 inches longer in wheelbase and two inches broader in the shoulders than the outgoing wagon, but its front and rear overhangs have been clipped two inches each for improved approach and departure angles — increasing this Subie’s off-road cred. And while the overall package is shorter than its predecessor, interior room is up seven percent and rear-seat legroom climbs by a conspicuous four inches. Cargo capacity is boosted as well: with 34.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 71.3 with the rears folded down, the Subaru is larger than many of its more “SUV-like” competitors — such as the Chevrolet Equinox.
Outside, a more aerodynamic front end accentuates new “hawk eye” headlamps that lead to a crisper side, top and rear design. The result is Outback’s most attractive motif to date. There’s also a segment first swing-out roof crossbar, a 2.8-inch longer wheelbase, and a two-inch wider design that adds to passenger comfort. Notable, too, is 8.7 inches of ground clearance and a total of four inches of additional rear seat legroom. The lack of front and rear overhangs result in Outback’s one-inch shorter stance, making everything easier when maneuvering, especially parallel parking.
The 2010 Subaru Outback isn’t especially swoopy or fast, and it hardly carries a luxe image. But with more interior refinement and new features, along with rutted-trail ability that sidelines tough-looking rivals, this Subaru will win more fans.

Interior
Interior design Interior design was differentiated from the regular Impreza model to offer a more active feeling. The interior is also changed compared to a standard Impreza: the information gauge, audio, and navigation system are laid out along the top of the centre panel, there are bucket seats in two-tone color, audio control satellite switches and Bluetooth hands-free switches on the steering wheel.

Security
The security system uses an immobilizer vehicle control unit (standard on all models) that verifies the ID code of the electronic chip contained in the key, and only allows the engine to be started if the proper key is correctly identified. In addition to protecting against the engine starting by means of a counterfeit key or similar action, the communication data is changed every time the engine is started in order to prevent vehicle theft by copying of the internal data.
