Mercury Mountaineer 2009 Covers All Of The Bases
If you’re looking for a mid-size SUV that offers a creamy-smooth ride and a comfortable, luxurious interior, check out the 2009 Mercury Mountaineer. This is an intelligent, well-designed truck-based rig that’s perfect for families and for hauling lots of cargo. Despite its somewhat outdated chassis design, the styling is actually comfortingly familiar and easy on the eyes.
Inside, the 2009 Mercury Mariner utilizes either a 4.0 liter V-6 engine that’s coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission, or a 4.7 liter V-8 engine that’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The V-6 engine makes about 210 horsepower.
The Mountaineer provided a different styling take and a slightly more upscale interior than the Explorer, and its available all-wheel-drive system helped make it more appealing to people who just wanted all-weather traction rather than the pretentious off-roading ability of true four-wheel drive.
Base models seat five and include 17-inch wheels, a six-way power driver seat, cruise control, full power accessories, a leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel with audio controls and a CD player with an auxiliary audio jack. Optional is a Third-Row Seat package that adds a fold-flat 50/50-split rear bench and auxiliary climate control. Also available on the base trim is the Comfort package that provides leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 10-way power driver seat, a six-way power passenger seat and dual-zone climate control.
The Mountaineer Premier adds 18-inch wheels, running boards, aluminum side mirror caps, dual-zone air-conditioning, leather seating, 10-way power driver seat, reclining second-row seats, a third-row seat, satellite radio and the Sync system that allows voice control of music and cell phones.
Utilizing all-wheel-drive and the V-8 engine, the Mariner scores a 6960-pound tow rating. The V-6 engine finds a fuel efficiency of about 13 mpg on the freeway. Check out the 2009 Mercury Mariner on lots for between $28,700 and $35,030.
Mercury 2009 Mariner hybrid 4WD and FWD
The 2009 Mariner Hybrid is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, available in two trims, the FWD and the 4WD, which includes the excellent Sync system for integrating MP3 players and cell phones, along with Sirius Travel Link, giving you traffic information and gas prices right in the car. The Mercury Mariner/Ford Escape hybrids are probably the best products in the Ford portfolio right now. The 2009 Mariner offers the Ford SYNC entertainment and communications interface.
The Mariner Hybrid is a relatively capable example of both the small SUV and the hybrid species. The 2009 Mariner Hybrid is a carryover from 2008. The Mariner’s hybrid system uses regenerative braking, where the electric drive motor becomes a generator, converting the vehicle’s momentum back to electricity for storage in the batteries.
