2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport

The Bugatti Veyron is (still) the world’s fastest production car, having just wrested the crown from itself in a successful world-record attempt. The new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport comes with four enlarged turbochargers and bigger intercoolers that have been used to boost the power of the 16-cylinder engine to a total of 1200 HP, the chassis has been extensively redesigned to maintain safety at extreme speeds. This gives noticeably more precise control of the wheels and the car as a whole. With lateral acceleration of up to 1.4 G and improved interaction between the tires and the intelligent all-wheel drive system, the Super Sport offers perfect handling and even more powerful acceleration of 1,500 NM on corner exits.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport set the speed record as the fastest production car in the world going 431 km/h (268 mph), with former race driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel behind the wheel. Production versions of the Super Sport will have their top speed electronically limited to 258 mph, in order to protect the tires from certain, expedient death. To achieve that higher velocity, the car has undergone a pretty significant aerodynamic rework, with the most obvious change being the removal of the steamship-esque silver air intakes.

The new Veyron is large for a two-seater, measuring 175.7 in. from bumper to bumper, and riding on a 106.7-in. wheelbase. It’s wide and low at 78.7 in. and 46.8 in., respectively. The car looks similar to the base Veyron, but there are subtle differences. On its roof are two NACA ducts that feed air into the engine, and the front of the car has been reshaped to house larger air vents (the lower one extending around the sides to the wheel arch).

The normal Veyron has a 16 cylinder engine that is fitted with 4 turbos, and makes 1,001hp, a figure immune to the word, “inadequate.” But when we hear “turbo” we think boost. And when an engine comes from a factory with any amount of boost, our brain immediately wonders what fun can be had with more boost.

This model offers a stunning set of specifications, such as the twin clutch gearbox with seven speeds, the extraordinarily precise driving performance in bends and excellent stability when braking and accelerating.

The car now has four fuel pumps, compared with the Veyron’s two, feeding the larger quad turbochargers. A less restrictive (and louder) exhaust system was developed. That and some engine-management programming increases torque to a hilarious 1,500 Newton-meters (1,103 pound-feet), and peak torque is higher in the rev band. Suspension-wise, the ride height was raised slightly (to accommodate greater high-speed downforce); and the air suspension, half-shafts, links and wheels were lightened, reinforced and laced tighter.

The fastest production car and one that’s holding on to the record in style is the Bugatti Veyron. It even has been successful in creating a world record for itself in this field and ironically has beaten its own record for creating the new record. The test driver who sat behind wheels of the new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport car made good an average speed of 268 mph. the driver and the car achieved this fete at the Ehra-Lessien test track which is located just outside of Wolfsburg. The previous record which was held by the Veyron 16.4 coupe was 15 mph lesser than this present new record. Not only is the car, by performance faster than its previous version, even the conditions of the day helped the car in achieving its feat. The Bugatti themselves had predicted a speed of 264 mph.

The body of the car has been made of carbon-fiber monocoque. This assists in increase of torsion rigidity as well as reduction in weight. The body has been fine-tuned to improve aerodynamic efficiency and maintain perfect balance in every situation, while the new fibre structure of the all-carbon monocoque ensures maximum torsion rigidity and passive safety – at reduced weight. The skin is made entirely of carbon-fibre composites, and the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is available in 100 per-cent clear-lacquered exposed carbon on request. Bugatti team has promised to give the production car with a clear coated paint for all its rear panels. This would give a view of the wave.

Bugatti 16C Galibier Saloon Begin Production in 2013

The 16C Galibier Saloon (hyper sedan) also belongs to that list of concepts and the production chances were meager until now because of the financial constraints. The company has announced that, from 2013, Bugatti will produce the world’s fastest saloon, as autocar reports. The Bugatti 16C Galibier four door saloon will enter (limited) production in 2013, as the 16C Galibier concept has received positive reactions.Bugatti 16C Galibier 1 Bugatti 16C Galibier Saloon Begin Production in 2013

In terms of powertrain, the Galibier is inferior to the Veyron, as it uses a downtuned version of the latter’s 8.0 liter W16 engine, which uses two superchargers instead of four turbochargers. While the Veyron’s powerplant produces 1,001 hp, the Galibier’s unit is expected to offer 800 hp. In addition to that, the Galibier’s engine wont use the Veyron’s DSG double clutch gearbox, but will be matted to a torque converter eight speed automatic transmission. Like the mind-bending Veyron, this four-door über-luxury car will have a limited production run of only 300 units. Prices are expected to be around £900,000 (US$1.3 million).

The exquisite saloon will be built from carbon fiber. An exception to this will be the car’s doors and wings, which will use aluminum. This will allow the car to maintain a decent overall weight, helping it achieve outstanding dynamic capabilities.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport (2009 onwards model)

bugatti veyron Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport (2009 onwards model)

Summer’s arrived and so too has the world’s most exclusive convertible – the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport is here for you

The Bugatti Veyron needs no introduction. It’s the car that changed the world in 2005 when VW finally tamed the eight-litre W16 engine pumping out 1001hp and proved the doubters wrong with a landmark of engineering. It’s still as fresh as the day it was born and now it just got better. Because now it comes al fresco.

OK so the removable hard top doesn’t fit in the luggage compartment and there’s a snazzy carbon-fibre umbrella to stick on top of the car when it rains, limiting the car to just 100mph. But that’s going to be just about the only criticism on this page.

That aside the Veyron retains its sledgehammer impact thanks to a design nobody dared copy. The bullshark nose isn’t conventionally pretty, but that and the muscular curves add up to a cohesive vision of power and the elegance lies in its simplicity.

Of course it’s gorgeous because it was made that way, but also because of what it represents. This is the ultimate road car, the daddy, the King of the Jungle, and Bugatti test driver Olivier Thevenin put it best. “You can drive past a supercar, any supercar, and you look at each other, and you know, and they know. You understand each other.”

Owning a Bugatti makes you the best, it makes your dad harder than everyone else’s and wins the Top Trumps scuffle every time out.

PERFORMANCE

BugattiVeyronnuoveimmagini 84 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport (2009 onwards model)

On a quiet backroad and with a quiet nod from Thevenin I floor the throttle, and life changes forever. The needle on that laugh riot of a power meter swings round to the full 1001hp with circus hammer intent and the whole car bolts forward.

Under the surface an array of limited slip diffs, Haldex clutches and four-wheel-drive battle with physics to stop that power simply planting the driver into the nearest tree, but from behind the wheel the car just launches at the horizon. The 60mph mark falls in 2.7s, 0.2s slower than the hard-top, 125mph slides past in 7.3 and it would have nailed 186mph in 16.7s without the slightest quiver.

The only way to know the sheer stupidity of what’s going on is the skin tightening on the neck and the stomach impacting on the seat. Straights just disappear and as soon as the sheer insanity starts to kick in, the horizon has arrived and it’s time to jump on the 400mm front ceramic brakes and send eyeballs careering towards the windscreen.

In the corners, too, this car is immense. Yes it weighs 1,990kg yet it corners with the grace and poise of an oversized Lotus Elise. It won’t oversteer, it’s just too graceful for that, but it will pummel the laws of nature and carry simply insane speeds through a bend, and that’s without engaging handling mode that raises the rear wing, drops the front and sends the car to a whole new level of mental.

Ride and Handling

2006 Bugatti Veyron Targa Florio F Salt Flats 1280x960 1024x768 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport (2009 onwards model)

There are lots of cars that can power beyond 200mph now, although the Veyron is still the daddy of the lot. But perhaps the most impressive part is the way it handles 5mph along the Porto Cervo harbour, the tight and winding streets of Olbia and the broken building sites that Sardinians call byways.

Comfortably in ‘D’, there’s no supercar lurches down the road in full view of a million people, no ridiculous engine complaints and the Veyron is every bit as comfy and easy to drive as a VW Golf. Even the engine barely whispers, instead there’s an assortment of electrical whines and whinnies, but nothing from the eight-litre W16 until you really let rip.

Veyrons tend to hit high mileage, because it really is a car that you can take to the shops. It won’t carry shopping, admittedly, but it will take you there with ease and this is a car that has covered continents and kept its occupants as fresh as well pampered daisies.

Interior

bugatti veyron pur sang interior1 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport (2009 onwards model)

There aren’t 5,000 switches on the interior of the Veyron and in fact it’s remarkably clean. There aren’t even that many options – you go for the €400,000 Hermes leather, or you don’t.

That aside the carbon-fibre sports seats are more luxurious than most lounges, the perfect switchgear is totally unique and then there’s the DSG gearstick that makes everything from the promenade to pole position a cinch.

Of course for this price you’d expect perfection, and that is what you get – apart from a luggage compartment that could take a briefcase, at a stretch.

Economy and Safety

An eight-litre, quad turbocharged engine with 1001hp and 922lb/ft of torque just isn’t going to be economical – that’s a fact.

At full speed it returns 2.7mpg and less than 10 is par for the course, but then driven in higher gears on tickover it would return much better figures. But I didn’t, I just couldn’t, the temptation to plant the throttle, blat past a line of innocent bystanders and open up a porthole to a whole new world of time and space was just too tempting.

So it’s fair to say I was close to the 999g/km of CO2 emissions that are quoted for urban driving, which is enough to make a baby seal somewhere choke. As for safety, the Veyron lives up to VW’s exacting standards and is festooned with electronic saviours for when you do finally push the car beyond the limit.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4s the fastest car

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4s is currently the fastest, most powerful, and most expensive street-legal full production car in the world, with a proven top speed of 407.5 km/h (253 mph), though several faster or more expensive vehicles have been produced on a limited basis. The car is built by Volkswagen AG subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS in its Molsheim (Alsace, France) factory and is sold under the legendary Italian/French Bugatti marque. It is named after French racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the original Bugatti firm.

bugatti veyron 164 Bugatti Veyron 16.4s the fastest car

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is currently the fastest car in the world with a top speed of over 400 km/h. The Veyron is also the most powerful and expensive street-legal production car. The Veyron is equipped with a W16 engine, which is composed of 16 cylinders in four banks of four cylinders. It is the equivalent of two narrow-angle V8 engines mated in a “W” configuration. Each cylinder has four valves, for a total of 64. However, the narrow V8 configuration allows two camshafts to drive two banks of cylinders so only four camshafts are required. The engine of the Veyron is supported by four turbochargers.

The Bugatti Veyron has a total of 8 radiators, these are:

  • 3 radiators for the engine cooling system,
  • 2 for the air conditioning system,
  • 1 transmission oil radiator,
  • 1 differential oil radiator,
  • 1 engine oil radiator,
  • 1 hydraulic oil radiator for the spoiler.

Bugatti Veyron’s high-tech components being meticulously assembled into an automotive work of art. Watching the car coming together, coupled with an admiration for the technical beauty of its structure, gave the designers the idea of finishing the car in its pure material configuration – meaning no color coating. The result is the EB 16.4. Veyron “Pur Sang”, a two-tone study of pure materialness showing the car’s true essentials: carbon and aluminum.

Bugatti Veyron Engine And How Does It Work?

The Bugatti Veyron is a car built around an engine. Essentially, Bugatti made the decision to blow the doors off the supercar world by creating a 1,000-horsepower engine. Everything else follows from that resolution. So let’s start with the engine. If you want to create a 1,000-horsepower engine, it has to be able to burn enough gasoline to generate 1,000 horsepower. That works out to about 1.33 gallons (5 liters) of gasoline per minute.
